Anti-Gas equipment.

Cotton pad mask and goggles.

​Introduced in May 1915.
The pad was soaked with Sodium Hyposulphite solution to try and neutralise the effects of Chlorine.

Smoke hood/Hypo helmet.

Introduced in May 1915.
A flannel hood soaked in Hyposulphite solution with a mica window. It gave improved protection to that of the pad.

Phenate Hexamine (P & PH) hood.

​"P hood" was introduced in October 1915.
Impregnated with Sodium Phenate and glycerin.

"PH hood" was  introduced in January 1916.  It had an improved solution of Sodium Phenate, Glycerin & Hexamethylene Tetramine.  protected against Chlorine and Phosgene.

Small Box Respirator (SBR).

​Introduced in August 1916.
Cloth face piece with a tube connected to a box filter.

Gave protection against higher concentrations of war gases.

Soldiers still carried a "PH hood" as back up.
