Service Dress Uniform.

Originally introduced in 1902, the Service Dress (SD) was made from "drab" woollen serge cloth. It went through slight changes in design during its life.
Both shoulders had rifle patches and epaulettes sewn permanently (1907 pattern) in the same material as the jacket. Earlier patterns had removable epaulettes (1902 pattern) in Regimental colours or whipcord straps (1905 pattern). A simplified pattern was introduced in 1914 without rifle patches or pleated pockets. There were two upper patch pockets with box pleats and two lower front pockets. There was also a First Field Dressing (FFD) pocket inside the front right skirt. The FFD was carried when on Active Service. All buttons were made of brass.
The trousers were made of the same cloth as the jacket and were a simple high waisted design with two side seam pockets. Buttons were grey metal. The trousers were worn with white cotton braces.
The jacket shown has Sergeant rank to each sleeve, brass marksman badge to left cuff and medal ribbons denoting service in Sudan, North West Frontier and Long Servce & Good Conduct.
